GRAVEYARD
As the existing graveyard at Mawnan Parish Church is almost full, residents have requested that the Parish Council tries to obtain land to extend it.
The land alongside is currently owned by the National Trust, which is willing to sell, but which can only do via a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO). The council has no powers of CPO, and has therefore asked Kerrier District Council (now part of the unitary Cornwall Council) to execute one on its behalf. The council has precepted for the full cost of the CPO, over the past 3 years, so has the necessary funds to complete it.
This is likely to occur during 2009, and ensure that there is sufficient space in the graveyard for the next 100 years or so. |
